Abstract Art
Artist Alma Woodsey Thomas is the first African-American woman to be included in the White House's permanent art collection. Her colorful works of Abstract Art use simple lines and vibrant colors to paint a picture. At this Artful Pages Project: Abstract Art, we will look at many of her works of art and use her techniques to create works of art. Please register one spot per child. Grades 1-3

Creative Wintering Workshop
As the days grow shorter and the pace of life slows, Seekonk Public Library invites you to embrace the art of “Creative Wintering.” Join us on Wednesday, January 28, February 4, or February 11 at 6 PM at Seekonk Library for hands-on sessions designed to nurture creativity and calm. Each week will feature a different sample project, exercise or medium as a prompt for your creativity. Space is limited. Baby Storytime
Babies, Books, and Belly Time Ages 0-18Thursday, February 5, 12, at 10:00 AMBaby Storytime is a program designed for infants ages 0–18 months. Bring a small blanket for your baby to sit on and enjoy a short story followed by music, fingerplays, and movement activities. After storytime, stay for a relaxed play session. Babies can enjoy belly time, which is great for building neck and shoulder strength, crawling through a tunnel, exploring toys, and looking through board books. No registration is required. Ready to join the revolution? Seekonk Public Library’s winter reading challenge for adults, Reading the Revolution, will be hosted January 2 – February 28. In the spirit of the country’s 250th anniversary, this winter theme invites you to start the year with the revolutionary act of reading, sharing reviews and completing challenge activities. Whether you’re a history lover or always looking to expand your reading, this challenge is for you. Choose any title you want or use suggestions featured in the MA250 Reading the Revolution book lists. All About Filmmaking Workshop for Teens & Adults
Starting with storyboarding, independent filmmaker Nicola McEldowney (Nicola Rose, Magnetosphere) will walk us through all the steps to making an independent film. She’ll show brief clips from her own filmography as examples of finished products, and she’ll allow participants time to ask questions and even make their own storyboards and share ideas. This workshop is preceded by our February 3 screening of Nicola’s brand new film Magnetosphere, a family-friendly coming-of-age story with an uplifting message, so make sure to join us for both of these events!This 1-hour event is free and open to grades 6 through adult. Paws to read
Paws to Read at the Library!Help your child build reading skills and boost confidence by signing up for Paws to Read! During this special program, children can reserve a 15-minute one-on-one session to read aloud to Gizmo and Pepe, two lovable Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix therapy dogs.Reading to animals has been shown to improve reading fluency and confidence, especially for struggling readers. Each private session is led by Sandra Healey and her therapy dogs, Gizmo and Pepe. Space is limited, so be sure to register early.Children should bring a book they are comfortable reading, or arrive a few minutes early to choose one from the children’s room.

Artful Pages Project - Collage Art
Many illustrators, including Lois Ehlert, use Collage Art to create interesting pages in their picture books. In this Artful Pages Project, we will examine a few of these artists' books, then tear apart magazines and books to create our own Collage Art. Please register.
Tiny Hands Workshop
Tiny Hands Workshop is a hands-on workshop designed to support early childhood development! Kids will explore stations set up around the room, perfect for practicing fine motor skills. Babies, Books, and Belly Time. Baby Storytime is a program designed for infants ages 0–18 months. Bring a small blanket for your baby to sit on and enjoy a short story followed by music, fingerplays, and movement activities. After storytime, stay for a relaxed play session. Babies can enjoy belly time, which is great for building neck and shoulder strength, crawling through a tunnel, exploring toys, and looking through board books. No registration is required. You will also make a sign to accompany the display. If needed, the Kid Librarian can ask the Librarian for assistance setting up the display.The Kid Librarian of the Month will be selected during the second week of each month, and their display will be showcased for the rest of the month. If chosen, you will be contacted by email or phone.All applications will remain on file.

Email the finished application to teens@seekonkpl.org or turn it in at the Research Help Desk in the library.Your opinion matters! If you’re in grade 6 through 12, then you have a chance to make a difference at your library by joining the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). During the school year, we will meet once a month at 3:30 PM to share ideas about upcoming programs and discuss how we can make the most out of the library’s services for tweens and teens. This is an opportunity to practice leadership, collaboration, and civic engagement and to take an active role in shaping the library’s impact on your community. Paws to read
Paws to Read at the Library!Help your child build reading skills and boost confidence by signing up for Paws to Read! During this special program, children can reserve a 15-minute one-on-one session to read aloud to Gizmo and Pepe, two lovable Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix therapy dogs.Reading to animals has been shown to improve reading fluency and confidence, especially for struggling readers. Each private session is led by Sandra Healey and her therapy dogs, Gizmo and Pepe. Space is limited, so be sure to register early.Children should bring a book they are comfortable reading, or arrive a few minutes early to choose one from the children’s room.

Join us in the meeting room to meet, play, and learn with other homeschool families! Activities and games for kids of all ages will be provided. Educators will have the opportunity ask reference questions or share resources with other home educators. This is a drop in event.

Greg starts with a brief description of his latest children’s book and song, EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEONE, then turns the pages of the book while he sings the song! In each session we will provide an introduction to the most useful tools and tips for your mobile device to help getting started. Did you know you can use your library card to get thousands of FREE ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and movies? Join Librarian Michelle Gario in this 90 minute session for an introduction on getting started with apps Libby, Hoopla and Kanopy. You must bring your Seekonk library card and password (pin) for this program. You must bring your own device; make sure the device is fully charged. Space is limited; registration is required.
Creepy Crawly Creatures with Hands on Nature
Happy Earth Day!We are celebrating Earth Day with Creepy Crawly Creatures! Join Hands on Nature for an opportunity to discover some fascinating local bugs - such as beetles, worms, slugs, ladybugs, and caterpillars! Kids will gain a better understanding and appreciation of their importance to our lives and their role in our ecosystem. If the weather is nice, we will end with a BUG HUNT outside to discover more insects! All ages.Please register a spot for all attendees.
