An Evening With An Archaeologist - Professor Laurel Bestock
Laurel Bestock is a professor of Egyptology and Archaeology at Brown University. Currently directing excavations at the site of Abydos, where the first kings of Egypt built the earliest pharaonic monuments hundreds of years before the pyramids, she has also worked extensively in Sudan, where she investigated cultural interactions in an ancient military outpost. Beyond excavation, her interests include ancient Egyptian art, as well as archaeological methodology and digital recording. In this talk she will discuss what it means to be an archaeologist of Egypt, what archaeologists do and why. Using examples from her own excavations, she will introduce us to how discoveries can shift our understanding of the past, as well as demonstrating why it's so darn fun to be an archaeologist.Registration Required and opens up January 17 at 10AM

Jammin' With You puts the JAM in Jamboree and the U in Music! Come dance, sing and jam along with us at the Bridgewater Public Library this winter! With a modern and engaging approach to children's music entertainment, Jammin' With You takes your family on magical musical adventures with plenty of laughter and smiles along the way. This class is best suited for children ages 0 - 7 but is fun for the whole family! The student trainer will be available to provide guidance in an effort to make trading an enjoyable experience for all, but each person is responsible for his or her own trades. The TaleSpinners has existed for nearly twenty years and is open to all. The TaleSpinners meet on Thursdays, year round, from 1-3 PM in the Mary Jarvis Conference Room.The TaleSpinners encourage all sorts of writing: memoir, poetry, short stories, and/or novels. The TaleSpinners write in all genres: mystery, thrillers, science fiction, romance, humor. We engage in gentle, helpful, and encouraging critiques of one another’s writing, and everyone gets a chance to share their work. We ask each writer to come with copies of his/her work for the rest of the group to write their comments and suggestions upon.No registration required.

February Artist Reception | Glories of Summer
Please join Kitt Shaffer on Friday, February 13 at 1:00PM for an artist reception. Her exhibit, Glories of Summer, will be on display in the Flora T. Little Art Gallery through the month of February.No registration is required to attend. The gallery is open during library hours.Brief BiographyKitt Shaffer came from a family of artists and craftsmen in the Midwest. In high school, she won awards for her portraits and still life paintings. In college, she minored in Fine Arts, pursuing drawing, particularly figure drawing, as well as sculpture. Later, she took up pastels, watercolors and colored pencil, producing small vibrant landscapes from her many travels. She also began working in ceramics. More recently, she has produced collages, white line prints, and painted furniture. She has been a participant in the Westport Art Group figure drawing and plen air landscape sessions since moving to the South Coast. She is also an active member of the Southcoast Artists, participating in the Open Studios tour. Her many shows in New England and Italy, and examples of her work can be seen on her website: www.shafferarts.comAbout the exhibit:This exhibit includes a variety of landscapes from the SouthCoast area as well as Italy and the Caribbean, with focus on summer scenery. Works include oil paintings of varying sizes and pastels on paper. The focus is on sun, water, and verdant plants. Many images include beach chairs and umbrellas. Many of the drawings were done from life while traveling and capture the instantaneous view of both familiar and exotic places. In the New England winter, a glimpse of summer can be reassuring.

Mad Science presents Fire And Ice!
Join us for a science show with Mad Science. This spectacular show thrills audiences with impressive science experiments. The event includes foggy dry ice storms and demonstrates how giant beach balls can float in the air. We demonstrate fire’s use of oxygen to pull an egg “magically” into a flask! The Stories Beneath Your Feet with Fossil Daddy
Brett Carter, also known online as Fossil Daddy, is a paleontologist and science communicator with a primary focus on ichnofossils, or trace fossils, especially dinosaur footprints. Fascinated by what tracks and trackways can tell us about ancient behavior, movement, and environments. he has collected and studied a wide range of other fossils. He completed much of his formal study in Scotland, but field experience extends far beyond that. He will be taking you through the world as he sees it, explain to you exactly what it means to be a paleontologist, show you some of his finds and do a Q&A session.His interest in fossils started in the late 1990s, inspired in part by the Pokémon franchise. Fossil Pokémon like Omanyte and Kabuto sparked a curiosity that quickly snowballed into a lifelong passion. Registration Required and opens January 31 at 10AM

Bruins Pajama Drive: 3 More Weeks to Donate!
The Boston Bruins, Cradles to Crayons, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and Wonderfund are once again partnering to rally communities in support of children in need across Massachusetts with a pajama drive! We are looking for brand-new pajamas, appropriate for all seasons, and in all sizes. Please do not give pajamas that include any family or holiday references, and refer to our Quality = Dignity guidelines.Your donations will help provide thousands of children with a warm pair of pajamas! The library will be accepting pajama donations from February 1 - March 15.
Lunar New Year Celebration 2026

Innocence Under The Elms - Flora T. Little Fellowship Program
Bridgewater Public Library's 2025 Flora T. Little Fellow, Anna Connor, will be presenting her research on Louise Dickinson Rich's 1955 memoir of growing up in Bridgewater, Innocence Under the Elms and the role such memoirs can play in the study of history.An accompanying exhibit will be on display in the library's museum gallery space. Kid’s Coloring Book Concert with Sarah Martin

MBTA Mobility Transit 101
Transit 101 is a group travel training opportunity presented by the MBTA Mobility Center's Travel Training team. Highlights will include an overview of MBTA service, accessibility and safety features, and transit options outside of the MBTA. Following the presentation, the Travel Training team will remain at the library to assist individuals with reduced fare applications on a drop-in basis. These are available to anyone age 65+, anyone who has a documented disability, or anyone who receives MassHealth or assistance from Mass DTA. Author Talk with Meg Mitchell Moore
Meg Mitchell Moore began writing as soon as she figured out how the cursive 'T' and 'F' were different and hasn’t stopped since. She worked for many years as a copyeditor, editor, and writer for a variety of nonfiction publications before turning to fiction, publishing her first novel in 2011. She has since published eight more novels, all but one set in New England. (The Admissions is set in Northern California., where her family moved for exactly one year before returning to the east coast.) Among her novels are national bestsellers, Indie Next picks, and a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers pick. She has a B.A. in English from Providence College and a master’s degree in English Literature from New York University. She lives in the beautiful coastal town of Newburyport, Massachusetts (home of the amazing Newburyport Literary Festival, for which she is a member of the steering committee). Her busy household includes one husband, a rotating cast of three teen and young adult daughters, and two exuberantly shedding golden retrievers. Her new novel, Down with the Shipmans, which is set on the New Hampshire seacoast, will be out June 2, 2026.

Van Gogh or Van Oh No! | A Creative and Comical Portrait Challenge | Adult Class
Back by popular demand! After patrons raved about the first session, Van Gogh or Van Oh No! returns to the library for another round of creative fun. Participants draw each other blindfolded, then paint portraits based on their original “vision.” No experience needed—just a sense of humor. All hilariously unique artwork will be displayed in the library’s art gallery.All materials provided. Come with a partner - ONLY ONE PARTNER MUST REGISTER PER PAIR. Registration Required. Sound Bath with Claudia D'Emilia Iafrate
Come enjoy an evening of calmness and relaxation with Claudia D'Emilia Iafrate. Claudia was introduced to Reiki in 2007, and by 2016, she obtained attunements of level three as a Reiki Master Teacher.About This Event:Experience the calming vibrations in the pure frequencies of the 7 Rose Quartz Crystal bowls, multi-dimensional Symphonic Gong and a variety of other healing instruments as they “bathe” away the chatter and stresses of everyday life. The TaleSpinners meet on Thursdays, year round, from 1-3 PM in the Mary Jarvis Conference Room.The TaleSpinners encourage all sorts of writing: memoir, poetry, short stories, and/or novels. The TaleSpinners write in all genres: mystery, thrillers, science fiction, romance, humor. We engage in gentle, helpful, and encouraging critiques of one another’s writing, and everyone gets a chance to share their work. We ask each writer to come with copies of his/her work for the rest of the group to write their comments and suggestions upon.No registration required.

MLB Opening Day at the Library!
Come to the Bridgewater Public Library to celebrate the beginning of another epic season of baseball! Participants of all ages will be able to take home a baseball card of their own choosing (while supplies last), take home cracker jacks, and even have the chance to win tickets to a Lowell Spinners, Brockton Rox and WooSox, generously donated by the teams themselves! We'll also have other activities for children of all ages, so don't walk, RUN the plate and visit the library starting at 4PM to participate!

Magic the Gathering Draft Event
The Bridgewater Public Library is excited to host its very first Magic the Gathering draft event, featuring cards from the set The Lost Caverns of Ixalan! Each participant will open packs to create a sixty card deck and play against others. The best part? Everyone will KEEP the cards they pull! Level Up Your Photography: Mastering Manual Mode | 2-Part Workshop | Adult Class
Do you love photography and want to take your skills to the next level? Join me for a fun and informative two-part workshop designed to help you take control of your DSLR camera in manual mode.We'll start with the very basics and explore shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and how they work together in the exposure triangle. This is a hands-on class, so bring your fully charged DSLR and get ready to take plenty of notes!To get the most out of this experience, attendance at both sessions is highly recommended. Your camera should allow you to manually adjust f-stops (aperture), shutter speed, and ISO. If you're unsure it does, feel free to email me at Wendy@WendyAdamsFineArtPhotography.com with your camera’s make and model, and I will let you know. Wendy has always viewed the world through the lens of a camera, finding beauty and meaning in every frame. A graduate of The Art Institute of Boston with a BFA in photography, she specializes in portraits and landscapes, though her passion for all forms of photographic art knows no bounds. Beyond creating captivating images, Wendy is dedicated to empowering others by sharing her expertise and helping them develop their own creative skills.
